＜Sugar Plant＞
1993年に結成、インディー・バンドとして活動を開始。95年に1stアルバム『hiding place』を日米同時リリースし、以後すべての音源は海外でもリリースされている。同年には初のアメリカ・ツアーを行い、翌1996年にはアメリカでレコーディングした曲を含むミニ・アルバム『cage of the sun』をリリースし、同年アメリカでレコーディングと二度目のツアーを行う。そこでレコーディングされた『After After Hours』ではクラブ・カルチャーからの影響を反映した斬新なサウンドでインディー・ファンだけでなくポスト・ロックや音響派など幅広いシーンから支持され、アメリカのカレッジ・チャートで大きな評判となる。次作『trance mellow』ではよりディープなスタイルを追求しクラブ・シーンでも評判となり、この頃から野外レイヴやクラブ・イベントでのライブが増える。1998年リリースの『happy』は前作の『trance mellow』との2枚組でアメリカ発売となり、3度目のUSツアーを行う。2000年エンジニアにDry & Heavy、Little Tempoの内田直之をむかえたアルバム『dryfruit』をリリース、2002年にはドイツ盤も発売された。2002年には松本大洋原作の映画『ピンポン』のサントラに「rise」が収録され話題となる。以後、マイペースにライブ活動を継続し2018年ついに18年ぶりのアルバム『headlights』が発売となる。

Formed in 1993, Sugar Plant began their career as an indie band, releasing their first album “hiding place” simultaneously in Japan and the U.S. in 1995, and all of their material has since been released overseas. In 1996, the band released a mini-album entitled “cage of the sun”, which included songs recorded in the US, and recorded and toured in the US for the second time. After After Hours” was recorded there and its innovative sound, which reflected influences from club culture, was well received by indie fans and the wider post-rock and acoustic scenes, and was well received in the US college charts. The band’s next album, “trance mellow”, explored a deeper style and was well received on the club scene, leading to more outdoor raves and club events.
In 1998 “happy” was released in the US as a double disc set with the previous album “trance mellow” and the band toured the US for the third time.
The album “dryfruit” was released in 2000 with Naoyuki Uchida of Dry & Heavy and Little Tempo as engineer, and a German version was released in 2002.
In 2002, “rise” was included in the soundtrack of the movie “Ping Pong” written by Taiyo Matsumoto, which became a hot topic.
Since then the band has been performing at their own pace and in 2018 their first album in 18 years “headlights” was released.
